Gathering and Using Data for Optimization

Use your data to optimize

The working sequence, in order. Each step depends on the one before it.

  1. Confirm tracking is right. If conversions read zero while clicks are healthy, stop and fix tracking. Everything below is meaningless until this is true.
  2. Cut what does not convert. In Reports, filter to campaigns with spend and no conversions, and pause them.
  3. Move budget toward what works. Sort by CPA and raise budgets in steps on your best performers, so delivery stays stable and keeps its learning.
  4. Separate creative problems from targeting problems. Falling CTR is a creative problem. Healthy CTR with poor CPA is a targeting or landing-page problem.
  5. Refresh creative about every 15 days. Rising CPC with falling CTR on a campaign that used to work is fatigue.
  6. Add retargeting once an audience passes roughly 15,000 users. It consistently performs best, because those people already engaged.
  7. Build a Performance Max campaign on your proven audiences, creatives, and geos, so the system can extend what already works.

What not to do

Changing several things at once means you cannot tell which one moved the result. Change one variable, give it time, then read it.
